We were delighted to have taken part in the Christmas Ideal Home Show exhibition at London’s Kensington Olympia in December 2015. We loved creating the room set that you see in the pictures on this page. It was a lot of fun and we were honoured that Laurence Llewelyn Bowen chose our set as the location for some of his filming. Creating a Christmas room set was a challenge we relished. In our experience a Christmas design faces two potential issues: it either falls victim to clutter, or in an effort to become stylish it loses its characteristic warmth and homeliness. In our design we aimed to strip away the schmaltz of traditional Christmas design while creating a room set that was genuinely welcoming, warm and enticing – somewhere a family would cherish spending an intimate Christmas Day.
We decided to do away with a lot of the traditional reds, purples and greens that are used in Christmas decor, in favour of warm pink walls offset by bright, clear lighting. This created intimacy whilst opening up the space and maximising the light available in the room. To create a wintry atmosphere we chose bright white Christmas decorations accented with gold and chrome, to complement silver and black furnishings. The burnished silver shutters and sofa evoked the depths of winter without being chilly. The overall feeling was cosy and welcoming. We had a lot of fun accessorising the room set, with a glitzy reindeer trophy on the wall and an oversized cuddly polar bear overseeing the festivities from the corner! We have been delighted by the positive feedback we have had from our Christmas interior design, and look forward to trying out some new ideas in the 2016 Christmas Ideal Home Show. We hope you’ll be able to come along and visit us.
